Seth Godin: Tribes - We Need You to Lead Us

In his latest book, Tribes, Seth Godin argues that anybody who wants to can step into a leadership role in today's fast changing, hi-tec world. Leadership is about belief and passion, or believing IN your passion and communicating it to the world. A lot of space is given over to a discussion of faith and belief, religion and heresy. Nowadays, "heretics" are rewarded. Leadership is no longer about management strategies to maintain the status quo, but about initiating change. The problem is that change requires leadership, but there are not enough leaders - hence the subtitle of the book: "We need you to lead us". Why aren't there enough leaders? According to Seth Godin too many of us have an exaggerated fear of failure and it is that fear which keeps us "sheepwalking" with the crowd, obeying orders and living in fear of change. Seth says, stop "sheepwalking"! Do not be afraid to make mistakes because, "The desire to fail on the way to reaching a bigger goal is the untold secret of success." (p. 108) |
